Gentec-EO UP100: Accurate Measurement of Large, Low-Power Laser Beams
Accurate Measurement of Large, Low-Power Laser Beams

The Gentec-EO UP100 is a large-aperture thermopile detector designed specifically for the accurate measurement of large-diameter laser beams at relatively low power levels. Combining a 100 mm aperture with low-noise performance, the detector addresses applications where conventional large-aperture detectors do not provide the required sensitivity.
Many large-aperture laser power detectors are optimized for high-power applications, making them less suitable for wide beams operating at lower power levels. The UP100 measures laser power from 100 mW up to 50 W while accommodating beam diameters that exceed the capabilities of standard laser power detectors.
Designed for Large and Divergent Laser Beams
The 100 mm aperture enables the UP100 to capture wide, divergent, and large-area laser beams without compromising measurement accuracy. This makes it particularly suitable for the characterization and testing of emerging laser technologies and large-beam optical systems.
Typical Applications
- VCSEL characterization and testing
- Laser diode array development
- Medical and dermatology laser systems
- Excimer laser measurement
- Diode-based illumination systems
- Production-line laser testing
- Automated test equipment
- Research and development laboratories
Combined Power and Energy Measurement
In addition to measuring laser power up to 50 W, the UP100 supports single-shot pulse energy measurements up to 700 J. This combination allows the detector to characterize high-energy, low-repetition-rate laser sources, including excimer lasers.
The detector incorporates Gentec-EO XNR Anticipation™ technology for faster measurement response. Its broad spectral range from 193 nm to 20 µm enables measurements from the deep ultraviolet through the infrared.
NIST-traceable calibration provides measurement traceability and supports consistent, reliable results in research, industrial, medical, and production environments.
Compact Design for System Integration
Despite its large aperture, the UP100 has a thickness of only 17 mm. Its slim construction simplifies integration into OEM laser systems, automated production equipment, optical setups, and test systems where the available installation space is limited.
The detector combines this compact mechanical design with the stability and durability of Gentec-EO thermopile technology.
Software and Display Compatibility
The UP100 is compatible with PC-Gentec-EO software, allowing users to acquire, display, record, and analyse laser measurement data directly on a computer.
For standalone display and data logging, the detector can also be combined with the Gentec-EO MIRO ALTITUDE. This provides a compact solution for real-time measurement monitoring and data storage.
