Princeton Instruments Introduces the New SCION™ Family of SWIR Cameras
Princeton Instruments has announced the launch of the SCION™ family of Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) cameras, a new generation of high-performance imaging solutions designed for demanding scientific, industrial, defense, and hyperspectral applications.
The SCION platform combines Teledyne’s extensive expertise in infrared sensor technology with a compact, cost-effective camera design. Available in 640 × 512 and 1280 × 1024 resolutions with a 10 µm pixel pitch, the cameras deliver exceptional sensitivity, speed, and integration flexibility for advanced imaging systems.
Designed for applications such as hyperspectral imaging, material analysis, fluorescence measurement, semiconductor inspection, defect detection, Earth observation, and bioscience research, the SCION cameras support multiple sensor technologies and spectral ranges. Initial models offer sensitivity from 300–1700 nm using Teledyne’s proprietary VisGaAs™ technology, as well as extended 900–2500 nm sensitivity using MCT (Mercury Cadmium Telluride) sensors.
The cameras feature high frame rates, advanced readout modes, and Sample-Up-The-Ramp (SUPR) functionality, enabling extremely low noise performance and enhanced image quality, even in low-light conditions. Thermoelectrically cooled designs further contribute to measurement stability and sensitivity.
A key advantage of the SCION platform is its fully integrated architecture, combining sensor, vacuum packaging, camera electronics, API, and SDK support within a single solution. This streamlined approach simplifies system integration, reduces supplier complexity, and lowers overall ownership costs while minimizing technical and project risks.
With the introduction of the SCION family, Teledyne expands its portfolio of advanced SWIR imaging solutions, providing researchers, system integrators, and OEM developers with a versatile platform that delivers high performance, reliability, and ease of use across a broad range of emerging commercial and scientific applications.
